Posing as a banker, Harold's attempts to romance members of the opposite sex all fall flat due to his tactless chat up lines. After a colleague advises him to cruise an AA meeting, Harold finally meets a woman who is prepared to date him (Annette Bening). They soon wed, and Harold proceeds with his plan to produce a child. However, his unusual behaviour has already aroused the suspicions of an FAA official (John Goodman) and a sleazy co-worker (Greg Kinnear).
