A close-knit fishing community in South-West Sicily has remained unchanged for centuries. However, Grazia (Valeria Golino), the wife of one of the fishermen, has an unconventional attitude to life, which causes consternation to the local community. They decide that she is in need of medical attention and attempt to have her treated in the city.
