In 'School of Rock' (2003), Jack Black plays genial loser Dewey Finn, lead guitarist in a bar band aiming to win a regional battle-of-the-bands competition. The only thing standing in their way is the self-indulgent antics of their lead guitarist. Finn is ousted from the band but he badly needs to pay the rent so finds himself in front of a class of elite school students after impersonating his supply-teaching roommate, Ned Schneelby (Mike White). Going against the school's remit he is soon teaching his class all he knows about rock music, including Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and The Who, after coming up with the idea that he could enter them in for the competition. Meanwhile, he has to keep the Principal (Joan Cusack) from finding out what he is up to, as well as all the other teachers and the kids' parents. In 'Without a Paddle' (2004), Seth Green, Matthew Lillard and Dax Shepard star as three Philadelphia urbanites who find themselves in deep water when a canoeing trip on the Columbia River in Oregon spirals out of control. Their late friend Billy had told the hapless trio about an unaccounted-for pile of money at an elusive location high in the mountains - but they have to face furious rapids and crazy mountain men (including Burt Reynolds) if they are ever going to get their mitts on it.
