Kaiji (voice of Masato Hagiwara) is an unemployed gambler living a miserable life when he is approached by a loan shark who wants to collect a debt Kaiji co-signed for a former co-worker. Given the option of either spending ten years repaying the debt or boarding a gambling ship and playing for one night, Kaiji chooses the latter and becomes embroiled in a series of dangerous contests that could cost him everything.
